Cat Gainey Blog Entry – Post #1 – “A New Relationship”

I feel like it is time to make something public. I’m in a relationship with a wonderful guy named Jason. To be clear, here are my thoughts on the matter. Love is meant to be multiplied, not divided. My relationship with Jason does not diminish my love for Jim. Jim and I fully discussed this happening when he was sick, and how he wanted me to find happiness and love again.

When I married Jim, I took his family as mine and he took mine. No one is being replaced,… especially not Jim. And one of the best things about Jason is that he doesn’t make me choose, he respects these relationships and what they mean to me. He understands, and has actually said, he expects I will always love and miss Jim. You see, Jim and Jason have history too….they were really close friends between the ages of 9-12 years old and I remember hearing stories about what they would do together from Jim but Jason and I did not cross paths until after Jim died.

His family is so great and I love hearing their memories of Jim too. I’m blessed by the way they’ve embraced me and the boys. The boys really enjoy spending time with Jason and his two sons, and that is of utmost importance to me. The boys’ well being comes first. I’ve learned that the heart has an infinite capacity to hold sadness, grief, love and happiness simultaneously. I’m grateful for this newfound happiness and all it has brought to my life.
