Dancing with Sensitivity

It is a gift to be THIS alive. To feel things that others might not and it works both in the beauty of life and the darkness too. It sucks at times. I’ll be the first to admit. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t want to be different than I am, I want to be my whole self.

Diving into creative pursuits and even a daily rhythm that includes writing, art, and intuition isn’t random for me. It’s NEVER about what gets created or what I do with it. It’s the feeling of FREEDOM. A way to carve my own path.

It is about making myself BIGGER. It is about discipline. It is about expression.

Because as a deep feeler, I need it. It grounds me and helps me come back to my center.

Being Different, Requires Different
Following someone else’s path doesn’t work. I have tried. I have learned. Mostly, that it’s not for me… but there is power in that because I now can march to the beat of my own drum.

Each one of us is unique and has our own needs. Just like some people can’t tolerate dairy while others eat as much as their heart desires. Some of us require tons of alone time while staying in and others require socializing and being out.

There is nothing wrong with this. Just like there is nothing wrong with passing on ice cream because it makes your stomach hurt. I have realized being sensitive, I need to make myself BIGGER by shifting my focus from my emotions and thoughts to something that is…

Fun, flowy, expressive, and creative in nature. I have found that being disciplined about this no longer feels like bootcamp, it feels like kindness. My journaling projects allow me to express rather than repress consistently.

I have spent a lot of energy and money on fixing myself to be less sensitive. Spoiler alert – none of that works. What works is accepting myself the way I am and doing what I need to do. Which may be wildly different from what others need to do for themselves.
Getting clear on what works for me and making changes as they arise is my life’s work. Each year that passes I learn more, understand and accept myself the way I am.

Tools and Techniques
There are a billion ways to deal with what’s hard. In the wellness world there are endless modalities and things to try. I love this because it shows me that there is always a way through it.

I am a sponge and obsessed with learning, I have tried everything from breathwork to channeling courses. I have worked with different coaches each teaching me a unique method of what worked to help shift their mindset, limiting beliefs, and traumas.

I learn by doing. I learn by trying. I learn by first, not knowing and then making a choice. I learn by asking. I learn by getting honest. I learn by accepting that no one can have the answer to what will work best for me, other than me. This requires the openness to admit to what is not working as it makes space for what is working.

It is impossible to know without trying. Whenever there is a level of suffering present, we are more willing to say sure, I’ll give it a try. If not, we stay stuck in the loops of what doesn’t work and then have something great to complain about over and over again.

So it is worth asking yourself…

What works for me and what am I willing to try? What are the tools and techniques that support you in feeling like your best self? For me it’s art, creativity, time alone, time to be with my expressive projects, and acceptance. Instead of trying to change or fix myself, it’s learning how to be with myself.

This may be different from others. It might even trigger others but I know it’s what I need and I give myself permission to have that.

Being more of myself, whether it’s the part of me that needs hours of peace and quiet or the part that wants to share my insights with another through a deep conversation. It is me and I embrace me.

I learn to dance with my sensitive nature…again and again.

With love and light,
Orly
